Waxflower Flowers


Waxflower is also known as Chamelaucium which is a shrub genus mostly seen at (endemic) South Western part of Western Australia. It is said that they belong to myrtle family of Myrtaceae and possess leaves similar to tea-trees. Among the flowers Geraldton Wax which is cultivated because of their appeal of large attractive flowers.

It was found by the French botanist Rene Louiche Desfontaines in the year of 1819. Though the reason for their name is unclear it is speculated since their petals give a feeling of wax. There are 14 species that are recognized within the genus.

It provides to a number of related genera which are close to that known as Chamelaucium alliance that include largely present members of Verticordia, Calytrix, Darwinia, Micromytus, Thryptomene and Baeckea.They have oil glands and aroma which give pleasant aroma when crushed. Their well known flower Geraldton Wax is widely cultivated. During cultivation they require dryer climates provided with excellent drainage and bright sun light.

Zantedeschia Flowers


Zantedeschia flowers belong to the family of Araceae and a genus of herbaceous flowering plants. It is a native of Southern African countries and have presence in South Africa to Malawi. The name derived from the tribute to the Italian botanist Giovanni Zantedeschi of 18th -19th Century. It was given to honor him by the German botanist Kurt Sprengel of 18th-19th century. It has few common names like, arum lily, calla, calla lily even though they are not listed as true lily nor as arum or calla.

Due to the existence of calcium oxalate it is poisonous and generates irritation, swelling of mouth and throat, acute vomiting and diarrhea. Despite that some times their leaves are cooked and taken over by people.

Zantedeschia flowers are extensively cultivated at California, Colombia, New Zealand and Kenya. Mostly it is done for cut flowers and as a planting material. In California and New Zealand continue to generate a comprehensive range of new hybrid varieties as by the plant breeders.
